HARLINGEN – Police are clearing out the scene of a standoff situation in Harlingen. Officials said an elderly man threatened police.

Harlingen Police Commander John Parrish said it started with an EMS call to the man's home on the 900 block of South Palm Court off of Expressway 83.

Police initially worked this as a possible hostage situation, but the man's wife was able to leave the home unharmed.

Parrish said the perimeter around the home is blocked off to traffic while police negotiate with the man from a command center.

After a two-hour standoff, police said the situation ended peacefully and the man was unharmed.

The roadway is back open.
