RIO GRANDE CITY – A hearing is underway in Starr County to consider trying a 16-year-old charged in a murder case as an adult.

The teen is charged with tampering with a human corpse and tampering with physical evidence.

Chayse Olivarez went missing over the summer. His body was later found on a ranch in Roma.

Prosecutors are seeking to transfer the defendant’s case to an adult criminal court.

If the transfer is approved, that would mean the possibility for a more severe sentence if he is convicted.
