Immigrants Who Witnessed Fatal Shooting in Laredo to Return Home
WESLACO – Several people in the U.S. illegally who witnessed a shooting that claimed the life of Guatemalan migrant in Laredo are set to leave the country.
The three were traveling with Claudia Patricia Gomez back in May through the border near Laredo.
According to Guatemalan Consul Tekandi Paniagua, the teenagers say they were encountered by Border Patrol shortly before an agent opened fire, killing Gomez.
He says the teens have been detained since the incident in May.
Paniagua says they were offered the opportunity to seek some form of immigration relief, but they refused.
On Monday, he will let a federal judge know they want to go home through voluntary deportation.
