WESLACO – Increased security along the U.S. side of the river could be sparking violence in Mexico.

Several cartels are working along the border.

A security expert believes it’s causing rival criminal organizations to fight over territory in Tamaulipas.

Confidential informants shared information with former FBI agent Art Fontes.

"I learned that there's some type of war that was declared between Jalisco and CDN. The crown jewel right now is going to be, not just the area of La Presa, but also Nuevo Laredo,” explains Fontes.

He believes targets will be strategic.

KRGV’s Valerie Gonzalez has the details.
