LAS VEGAS (AP) — A new PBS film on the Latino voting bloc examines the rise of potentially the largest electorate of color in the U.S.

The VOCES/PBS documentary “Latino Vote: Dispatches from the Battleground” is scheduled to begin airing on most PBS stations Tuesday and seeks to investigate how Latino voters see the 2020 Election.

The film is told using a series of immersive dispatches from the battleground states of Nevada, Texas, Florida, and Pennsylvania. It follows left-leaning progressives and Latino evangelicals, some who support President Donald Trump, and others trying to register Latinos to vote.

The film begins in Las Vegas as candidates reach out to Latino workers ahead of the February caucus and then moves to protests sparked at the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police.

“I was eager to bring journalism to the screen that doesn’t rely on correspondents or pundits, but instead focuses directly on the Latinx organizers and voters who may very well determine the nation’s political future,” said director Bernardo Ruiz.

The film comes two years after Latino voters turned out at unprecedented rates in the 2018 midterm elections.
