Local Man's Land Taken by Gov't While in Jail
RIO GRANDE CITY – A local man says the federal government took a portion of his land while he was serving time in jail in 2008.
Jesse Clarke says he received a letter a few months ago notifying him the government wants nearly 11 acres of his land for the construction of the border wall.
Clarke says he then realized the government had already taken an acre and a half of his land while in jail.
"I was mad at first like anybody else, I mean it’s like somebody shows up at your house and says your backyard isn't yours anymore,” says Clarke.
He said he was told that he wasn’t notified because the government couldn’t find him.
Clarke will be in court in April to see if there is anything he can do to stop from losing an additional 11 acres of land.
