Local School District Halts Education Services for Southwest Key Programs
SAN BENITO – San Benito Consolidated Independent School District will no longer provide education services to children in federal custody.
A press release sent out Friday afternoon says the school district is making the change after the Texas Education Agency changed its position on the education of immigrant children.
“TEA released correspondence in regard to this issue, officially stating its position that the federal government is responsible for the education of such children.”
San Benito CISD says teachers and staff scheduled to work with Southwest Key students will be reassigned to cover area where the school district has grown.
