EDINBURG - A local woman says the proposed border wall would call for the demolition of her house.

Nayda Alvarez says she has lived in her Starr County home for over 40 years.

"This is a gathering place this is where everybody gets together. This is where we enjoy our holidays where everyone comes to at the end of the day," says Alvarez.

She says she was shown maps that put the border wall just steps from her back door.

Alvarez says she is unsure of what she will do if her home is taken, and the amount of compensation for her property is still in question.

The Starr County Industrial Foundation says at least three other homes are in danger.

In a statement they said, “In recent dialogues with the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Border Patrol our local leadership has offered alternative proposals that are intended to protect local land owner's property rights, we look forward to a continued conversation.”

The statement also says the foundation members are encouraged by learning that the alignment proposals shared in the past are no longer being considered for the border wall path.

Alvarez says she hopes the new proposed route will let her keep her home.
