Log Dangling from Weslaco Power Line Cleared
WESLACO – Hidalgo County residents said a log dangling from a power line had them worried for their safety.
People living along Bridge Ave. in Weslaco said the nuisance has been there since November.
Diana Lopez is the owner of Diana’s Diner. She said people have watched and waited for the log to fall.
“It looks like it’s barely hanging on. And then when it’s windy the wires keep moving,” she said.
Lopez said many parents also became worrisome of their children’s safety.
“Their kids walk to the store or come to the restaurant… They’re on that side and they’re afraid that they’re going to get hurt,” she said.
We spoke to a senior who lived across the dangling log. She said she paid a tree company to cut down a trunk, but crews left part of it dangling.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS went to an electric utilities company to see if they could remove it. They said the area did not belong to them.
We then contacted the city of Weslaco. They told us Frontier Communications was among several companies that have telephone easement along the road.
The company sent someone out to clear the area within 24 hours of alerting them about the problem.
