LUPE Holds Scholarship Workshop for Dreamers
RIO GRANDE VALLEY--Immigration right's group LUPE said this week's decision on DACA doesn't affect dreamers' ability to get a scholarship for college.
LUPE had a scholarship workshop today. LUPE's education specialist, Abraham Diaz, said everybody has the same college access in Texas regardless of legal status.
"By federal law, DACA is something totally different from state law. In the state of Texas, it states that any student who graduates from a Texas high school has the same opportunity to go on to any state college and receive financial aid, based on their efforts in high school," Diaz said.
Diaz added he and others at LUPE think it's important for all dreamers to go to college. They'll keep a close eye on any further changes about DACA.
