Man Sentenced for Assaulting Border Patrol Agents
MCALLEN – A Guatemalan national will spend a year behind bars for assaulting a Border Patrol agent.
Dublas Elexsander Cruz Lopez accepted a plea agreement. In exchange for pleading guilty to assaulting a federal agent, attorneys tossed out two other counts against Lopez.
The assault happened in March 2016 near Roma after Border Patrol agents found a group of immigrants hiding in the brush.
Cruz was among the group. He reportedly hit one of the agents in the neck with his elbow and kicked another agent in the legs several times.
