WESLACO – An Edinburg man was sentenced in a human smuggling case.

Victor Eduardo Acevedo-Ventura was caught in October of 2017 trying to smuggle six people in the country illegally near Falfurrias.

While attempting to flee from the immigration checkpoint, he slammed his vehicle twice into a Border Patrol unit.

Acevedo-Ventura will spend four years in federal prison.
