McALLEN – The Mustangs are headed to the regional semifinals again, on a mission to accomplish something that no one in the Valley has done before.

“The first 6A team to get past the sweet sixteen,” said McAllen Memorial volleyball coach Lorena Lopez.

Standing in their way of this milestone is O’Connor, a talented team known for their size and speed.

“They have a big block, so we have to play smart,” said senior outside hitter Valeria Trevino. “Keep going up strong, be ready for big blocks and just keep it in play.”

The Mustangs have no doubt that they can turn their dream into a reality. With a team that’s been together for two years, the players say the possibilities are endless.

“Our chemistry on the court when we are playing and during practices and stuff is great,” said senior outside hitter Jocelynn Everage. “It really brings us together and it brings us to a new caliber.”

“It would be very exciting for us to accomplish that, not just for McAllen Memorial, but for the Valley,” said Lopez.

McAllen Memorial plays O’Connor Friday at 7pm inside the Alamo Convocation Center.
