Medical professionals face challenge to get ahead of virus with daily developments

WESLACO – The last several weeks of developments as the coronavirus spread through the United States created a situation domestic doctors may have studied, but haven’t faced.

Dr. Martha Cano, a board member with South Texas Health Systems, says medical professionals are being bombarded with new information on symptoms every day.

New implementations have been put in place this week based on what’s known about how long the virus lasts on surfaces and in the air.

In the meantime, researchers are working quickly to develop a vaccine, which experts say could be another 12 to 18 months.
