MERCEDES – Mercedes police are searching for the suspects involved in a shooting, according to Police Chief Olga Maldonado.

Two vehicles were involved in the shooting, one of the vehicles was damaged and left behind.

Everyone involved fled the scene. No injuries are reported at this time.

The incident happened near the intersection of 10th and Colorado around 11 a.m. Sunday.

Those who live nearby say they are worried about the safety of their neighborhood.

Claudio Garcia says he was woken up by the shooting.

"It sounded like gunshots, at least 6 rounds shot off," said Garcia who lives close by the incident.

Garcia said he immediately got out of bed to check on his friends and family.

"I jumped in my car and looked around my area to see if it was anyone down my street or anything going on," said Garcia.

This isn't the first time Garcia says has heard gunshots near his home.

Over the years he says his once quiet neighborhood has now changed.

"It seems like it's getting worse," said Garcia.

Garcia said he notices a lot of suspicious activity in his neighborhood and worries about the safety in this area, especially after Sunday's shooting.

"Lot of activity, cars coming in and out. The signs are there," Garcia says, "I'm not saying it's drug activity but it could be anything.".

In the meantime, Garcia says he will continue to look out for those he cares about. Mercedes police are investigating the case.
