Mexican Authorities Send Troops to Border, Residents on Edge with Recent Trends
PHARR – The Mexican government is also sending troops to the border as residents continue to be on edge with recent crime.
Reynosa resident Juana Maria Castro says the levels of fear increase during the holidays.
"You leave your house and you don't know if you'll return because at any moment you could be caught up in a crossfire,” she says.
The Mexican government, under the new leadership of Juan Manuel Lopez, has sent has sent military police to major border cities, including Reynosa, Matamoros, Rio Bravo, Nuevo Laredo, Madero, Mante, Soto La Marina and Ciudad Victoria – it’s part of an initiative called ‘Peace and Security Plan 2018-2024’.
KRGV’s Daisy Martinez spoke with a Rio Grande Valley resident who often crosses into Mexico but is skeptical about these new safety efforts.
