PHARR – An open forum for the public was held to discuss the North American Free Trade Agreement.

The Mexican consulate and the U.S. Consulate in Matamoros sought to hear from local business leaders and other stakeholders in the Rio Grande Valley community about the treaty’s impact on our region.

Attendee Camilo Carranca says he’s worked in the maquila industry in Mexico for nearly three decades.

He tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS he’s seen the impact of NAFTA firsthand.

Friday’s event also highlighted the importance of transportation and the movement of goods across the border.
