Hidalgo County commissioners secured a new agreement with a Mission-based EMS provider to serve those living in Precinct 3.

The agreement with Skyline EMS was reached days before Precinct 3’s contract with Pharr EMS is set to end.

Without the new deal, the ambulance response times would have been a lot longer.

"We're only going to be responding to the rural areas," Hidalgo County Precinct 3 Commissioner Everardo “Ever” Villarreal said.

The six-month contract with Skyline will cost Precinct 3 taxpayers $60,000 every month.

The Delta region in Hidalgo County Precinct 1 will be serviced by Pharr EMS until September 30. County commissioners did not make a decision on what will happen after that date.
