MISSION – An internal investigation by Mission police into one of their own led the officer to resign.

A Mission police officer was suspended after a video of him drinking, and what shows to be a bag of some leafy green substance, surfaced online.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS is not sharing the officer’s name since no criminal charges have been filed.

The Mission Police Department held a press conference Thursday afternoon.

Mission Police Chief Robert Dominguez announced the officer voluntarily resigned. He said the officer will seek help.

“It’s situation like this that puts us in the limelight as far as… police officers are human beings too. They make mistakes and unfortunately he did. I’m glad that bottom line he basically admitted to his wrongdoing and in that light, again, resigned his position,” he said.

Dominguez said the incident happened in Edinburg and is being investigated by the Edinburg Police Department.
