MISSION--The Mission Veterinary Hospital held their second annual pet adoption today.

The event had animals from a total of five local rescue organizations.

Elizabeth Lukjanov works at the Mission Veterinary Hospital. She said this event is held to educate the public on the importance of adopting pets.

"Around the holidays, especially is a time where we see lots of animals on the street. They're given as presents and they end up getting bigger from cute little puppies and people just can't maintain them, so around this time is really when we see spikes in stray animals," she said.

The average cost to adopt a pet can range from 40 dollars to 125 dollars depending on the age of the pet. If you missed today's event, Lukjanov says you can contact them at 956-585-1656 to find out when the next adoption event will be held.
