Mission Woman Wants Answers after Police Evacuated Neighborhood
MISSION – A Mission neighborhood is clear after police evacuated several homes. But a woman living in the area wants to know what led to the evacuation.
Police said they were called out to the neighborhood around 9:00 Thursday night on West Solar Drive.
The woman, who did not want to be identified, said when she returned to her home, eight to 10 police units were blocking her street.
The neighborhood was blocked off because of a suspicious package. The woman said she was finally escorted to her home by an officer around 11:00 p.m.
She said she saw officers blocking the road and her neighbors standing outside their homes trying to figure out what was happening.
“Get in the house, stay away from the windows, just stay safe in the home,” she recalled people saying. “But after that, no one really explained what was going on and so you know, I complied with the police reports and the suggestions yesterday. (But) today I just want to know what transpired here and are we safe.”
She said the scene started to clear around 2:00 a.m. on Friday.
Mission Police Chief Robert Dominguez said the box in questions turned out to be a box containing two batteries for a boat or travel trailer.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS asked the chief why the community was not informed about what happened.
He said there was no need to add fear to the community when there was no threat, and it is protocol for them to take these precautionary steps to make sure the safety of their community is put first.
