WESLACO – With a new year comes changes in some laws.

Beginning Jan. 1, patients will be able to go online to see what hospitals are charging for all medical procedures.

A Weslaco resident tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS he was caught off guard after receiving a bill for thousands of dollars after an injury. He says he’ll be using this new tool.

The posted prices on a website are subject to change and insurance deductibles and co-pays could also affect the final bill.

Also changing in 2019 are income taxes; dependent exemptions will be removed, as well as tax breaks for movers.

The IRS will also do away with the fine people pay for failing to maintain qualifying health coverage.

KRGV’s Cecilia Gutierrez explains more about these changes.
