WESLACO - A Weslaco business owner said a new utility pole makes it difficult to exit his business in the 2900 block of North Texas.

"You turn right to the first street and the mirror touches the pole,” Reyes said, showing CHANNEL 5 NEWS the new and old pole side by side.

He's talking about a brand new AEP utility pole. Fresh dirt marks its unwanted arrival.

"They told me there was nothing they can do about it,” Reyes said. “That was the only place they can put it."

"X" marks the spot of his old light pole in the alleyway. It is directly in front of a gate from his business to the alley. By our measurement, it's about 18 inches from the new light pole.

"My idea is this pole to be moved closer to this corner or over here but the solution is not there,” Reyes said.

We reached out to AEP. They said the old pole was rotten and the space to put one in is limited.

“The service department will be looking into this situation tomorrow to determine if a new pole can be set in its original location. This should allow the customer to keep the turning radius that he had prior to setting the new pole,” said AEP External Affairs Manager Daniel Lucio.

It leaves Reyes optimistic for a solution.
