BROWNSVILLE – National Weather Service forecasters have issued an alert of rip currents and lightning at local beaches over the next few days.

Forecasters Chris Birchfield said the NWS is predicting moderate rip currents up until Wednesday.

Birchfield is asking anyone to use caution if they plan to go surfing over the next few days. He also advises anyone who is not a strong swimmer to stay near lifeguard posts if they enter the water.

He added the Rio Grande Valley may experience thunderstorms and lightning over the next few days.
