DONNA - The National Weather Service is warning residents about following home code compliance before severe weather strikes.

The NWS says places like a neighborhood in Donna are the most at risk.

Local resident, Aida Palos, says she got a taste of how damaging winds don’t just come from hurricanes.

"A lot of people from the neighborhood are not ready for strong winds because you even see trampolines and roofs all over the place," says Palos.

She says her neighbors need to be more aware with spring storms starting to form.

NWS Warning Coordination Meteorologist, Barry Goldsmith, says building code compliance is a concern.

The Harlingen Airport saw 74 mile per hour wind gusts Sunday.

Goldsmith says it’s only a matter of time until that type of wind hits a colonia again.
