Peso Rate Decrease Discouraging Mexican Shoppers to Exchange in US

BROWNSVILLE – Mexican nationals usually provide an economic boost during Semana Santa.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS is told the peso exchange rate isn’t working in their favor.

At the moment, the exchange is 19 pesos for one U.S. dollar.

It was at about 19.43 near the end of March and has been gradually decreasing.

A man from Monterrey says he is able to exchange his pesos in Mexico for 50 cents cheaper than what is it is in the United States.

An exchange house employee in Brownsville tells us that they are not seeing pesos coming in.
