As drought conditions make their way back into the Valley, fires can spark at any moment.

When CHANNEL 5 NEWS covers fires, extra vigilance is needed to stay safe.

A recent brush fire in Santa Rosa was quickly put out by the Mercedes and La Féria Fire Departments. There were no injuries and neighborhoods nearby were safe.

Other fires like one that broke out in Brooks County earlier this year, took days to be put out. Around 900 acres of the Alto Colorado Ranch were burned.

Even structure fires are unpredictable. This is why it's important as a photojournalist and reporter team to be aware of all surroundings.
