EDINBURG – The Edinburg Police Department were called out to an open field Sunday night after reports of remains being discovered.

According to Edinburg Police Assistant Chief Oscar Trevino, the call came in around 8:00 p.m. A juvenile walking in the area of Ivy Lane and Wendy Lane came upon what appeared to be a human skull in the dirt.

The juvenile and an adult contacted a law enforcement officer who resided in the area.

Police responded to the scene and discovered human skeletal remains. A crime scene investigation is in progress and investigators are treating the case as a homicide investigation until determined otherwise.

The gender of the remains hasn’t been determined. A forensic pathologist examination is pending.

Trevino said there is no cause for alarm for the residents in the area.

Anybody with any information is asked to contact Edinburg Crime Stoppers at 383-8477.
