BROWNSVILLE - Environmental studies for a new hurricane evacuation route are underway in Cameron and Hidalgo counties.

A proposal is evaluating FM 1925 for major reconstruction.

Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority executive director Pete Sepulveda said the project is meant to increase traffic capacity and connect Hidalgo, Cameron and Willacy counties.

It would run parallel to Interstate 69, also known as Expressway 77.

The road would also connect to the proposed second causeway at South Padre Island.
