Proposed Bill will Combine Cameron Co. Schools into 1 District
BROWNSVILLE - Texas State Sen. Eddie Lucio Jr. introduced a bill that will combine all Cameron County schools into one district.
Senate Bill 2112 proposes creating a single county-wide district instead of the current nine school districts.
If passed, the bill will be effective July 2018 for the 2018-2019 year.
Cameron County school districts are speaking out against the potential change. They said they were never consulted about the bill.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS is working to contact Senator Lucio regarding Bill 2112 and what it could mean for local school districts.
