ALAMO – PSJA ISD officials say a student nearly drowned during her physical education class at the school district's aquatic center.

A classmate noticed she did not resurface for about two minutes and called for help, according to a PSJA ISD press release. A teaching staff pulled the student out of the water and administered CPR.

Emergency responders arrived at the building, located in Fir and Freida street, and transported her to the hospital.

The 6th grade Audie Murphy Middle School student is in stable condition.

Hernandez said four swimming coaches and a lifeguard were supervising 23 students at the time of the incident. All other students were transported to their respective campus and were met with counseling staff.

The school district notified parents to advise them of the situation.
