ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Shelby Miller has been designated for assignment by the Texas Rangers, becoming the second veteran pitcher in less than two weeks dropped by the team.

The move was made Monday, when the Rangers added left-hander Jesse Biddle to their roster. Biddle was claimed off waivers from Seattle last week.

Miller was struggling in his return from Tommy John surgery, just like former Texas teammate Drew Smyly, who was designated for assignment on June 20.

A native of Texas who had elbow ligament-replacement surgery in May 2017 while with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Miller signed a $2 million, one-year deal with the Rangers as a free agent last winter. The right-hander was 1-3 with an 8.59 ERA in 19 games, including eight starts, and was moved to the bullpen in mid-May.

Smyly, a left-hander, was 1-5 with an 8.42 ERA in 13 games (nine starts) with Texas after not pitching in the majors the past two seasons.
