RAYMONDVILLE – A local man who has been unemployed for nearly ten years says he is interested in any employment opportunity he can find.

Ricardo Cruz says he has looked for an occupation for the past two to three weeks.

"I’ve been out of work for 10 years I guess, because I've been taking care of my mother at home; she's been sick," says Cruz.

The Willacy County Sheriff’s Department has several job openings due to the El Valle Detention Center re-opening after years of struggle.

Willacy County Sheriff Larry Spence says the detention center is continuing to grow, and is close to reaching the 1,000 bed capacity.

"It makes it difficult for us because we've got to find openings and they've got to fit into our job descriptions,” says Spence.

Spence says residents can search and apply for jobs at the Willacy County website.

Cruz says he will be submitting his application and hopes to work for the county.
