Records: Rio Grande City man facing multiple charges after threatening to burn woman’s home
A Rio Grande City man was arrested on multiple charges after threatening to commit arson at a residence, according to a criminal complaint.
Three children were at the home at the time of the incident, according to the Starr County Sheriff’s Office.
Juan Garcia was arrested on August 30 on multiple charges.
A criminal complaint obtained by Channel 5 News identified Garcia as the man who attempted to commit arson at a woman’s residence on August 25.
According to the complaint, Garcia poured gasoline in the attic of a woman’s residence to “quemar tus sanchos,” which the complaint translates to “burn your lovers.”
The arson attempt “failed to effect the commission of the offense intended,” the complaint added.
Details of the relationship between Garcia and the victim were not available.
Garcia was arraigned on one count of attempted arson, three counts of endangering a child, and four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the incident.
Bond for Garcia was set at $800,000.
