MCALLEN – Some residents are hopeful President Trump’s visit to the border will result in a better understanding of immigration.

Sister Norma Pimentel runs a growing respite center in McAllen.

She says it is a place for asylum seekers processed by federal agents.

President Donald Trump explains a border wall will stop people who are in the country illegally from entering the U.S.

"This is a humanitarian crisis, a crisis of the heart and a crisis of the soul," says President Trump.

McAllen Mayor Jim Darling says the city is seeing large numbers of asylum seekers.

He says he needs clarification on what the President is calling a crisis.

He says most asylum seekers don't stay in McAllen for long; they travel north and await their immigration court dates.
