MISSION – Some local nature enthusiasts are concerned the government is putting more restrictions on the locations they can visit near the border.

A tradition called the Christmas Bird Count takes place at the same time every year.

Bird-watchers count up all the birds and add them to a list, which informs scientists and people who manage the protected lands about these birds.

KRGV’s Christian von Preysing spoke with John Ebner, who has participated in the Christmas Bird Count for many years.

He says authorities are getting more strict about going into an area known as Border Patrol Stables.

"You could drive in and park there and watch. But the border patrol has now closed the gate so you can no longer drive in,” explains Ebner.
