Rights Group Says Teen in Country Illegally Had Abortion Procedure
BROWNSVILLE –A 17-year-old being held in federal custody in Brownsville who sought an abortion has had the procedure, according to a legal nonprofit group.
The full U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit cleared the way for the procedure on Tuesday.
The 17-year-old illegally entered the U.S. in September and learned she was pregnant while being held in a local shelter.
She obtained a state court order permitting her to have an abortion but federal officials refused to transport her or temporarily release her to have others take her for the abortion.
