SAN BENITO – San Benito city officials are requesting help from several law enforcement agencies to help investigate concerns within the police department.

Eight San Benito police officers signed a letter of no confidence on May 31. It was delivered to city commissioners the same day.

The letter makes claims against police chief Michael Galvan.

City manager Manuel De La Rosa said it was turned over to the city attorney for review.

In the letter, officers claim morale is at an “all-time low.” De La Rosa said they are looking into the allegations closely.

“We do take these allegations serious. I am having conversations with outside agencies. I’m not going to name them at this time. But I’ve already met with two groups. I have a call in and request to a third group,” he said.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS visited the police department to speak with Galvan. Officers said he’s out for several days.

We also called and texted but received no reply from him.

Galvan was officially named police chief in September of last year, after serving as interim for months.

The mayor said he has confidence in the police department to continue protecting and serving the people of San Benito.
