San Juan Police Officer in Federal Custody

SAN JUAN – A San Juan police officer is in the custody of federal agents.

San Juan Police Chief Juan Gonzalez said they were recently told about the arrest of Officer Richard Castillo.

Castillo was in federal court Friday morning and went before Judge Dorina Ramos.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office Southern District of Texas, the officer is accused of providing false statements to Drug Enforcement Administration agents during a narcotic seizure investigation in December 2016.  

The chief said Castillo is suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation.

Castillo’s preliminary detention hearing is set for April 19 at 11:30 a.m.
