BROWNSVILLE – The disappearance of 1-year-old Paris Gomez is now being investigated as a kidnapping, according to Brownsville police.

They said both the baby and her mother, 21-year-old Joseline Villegas-Amaro, were seen on Tuesday.

Paris was last seen wearing a striped top and blue jeans.

Investigators said Child Protective Services removed the child from the mother after a narcotics arrest upstate.

“She had visitation rights and she apparently had been keeping up with the way that she would see her child, but in this time, she picked up her child and just never came back,” said Brownsville police Detective JJ Trevino.

Trevino said the child was in the custody of grandparents who became concerned when the child did not return.

Villegas-Amaro reportedly removed a court-ordered ankle monitor and was last seen walking toward the Gateway International Bridge.

She was wearing a pink top and pink shorts.

A warrant for her arrest was issued after the toddler’s disappearance.

Investigators on both sides of the Mexico-U.S. border are currently working to help locate the child.

Anyone with information on their whereabouts is asked to contact Brownsville police at 956-548-7000.
