Shelters Providing Relief from Heat
BROWNSVILLE – A local soup kitchen is helping people looking to beat the heat this summer.
Officials with the Good Neighbor Settlement House say people have flocked the shelter in search of some relief. They recently received a grant to help them purchase outdoor fans.
“The level of dehydration was significant and observable, and the lethargy that comes from being too hot was apparent,” says Jack White, the executive director at the shelter.
KRGV’s Daisy Martinez has more on the adjustments the shelter has made this summer to help protect the homeless form the extreme heat.
The Good Neighbor Settlement House is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays.
