ALAMO -- One fireworks warehouse manager says shoppers are getting an early start due a rule change in the Texas Administrative code. The change allows customers have a hands-on experience while shopping for fireworks. Javier Ruiz manages a fireworks warehouse in Alamo.

"We've seen an increase earlier and people are enjoying the increase of actually grabbing their merchandise, so at this time last year, with the barriers it was a lot slower," said Ruiz.

He says prior to this summer, workers literally stood between the customers and they came for. That's no longer the case.

"This past summer, the barriers, which we called counters were removed," said Ruiz. "This allows the customer to get a hands on feel and experience with the merchandise just like if they're shopping at HEB or Wal-Mart. So there's no more barriers where previously employees would hand the merchandise to them."

Donny Duarte knows a thing or two about fireworks. He pours hours of his time into searching YouTube for the perfect explosive displays.  He spoke to CHANNEL 5 NEWS at a local fireworks warehouse.
"Just getting a little show together that I put on for my family every year," said Duarte.
It was clear he did his research. He came equipped with a shortlist of the perfect fireworks.
"Saturday night special, blonde joke, highfalutin, hit the road jack," Duarte said as he read through his list.

Duarte rule change makes shopping more convenient, and it's the reason he got an early start.

"Sooner or later everyone's going to come and they're going to be empty here, so I have to come get it while it's here!"

While exciting, fireworks can be dangerous if not handled properly. Here's what you need to know according to the national council on fireworks safety.

- Obey local laws regarding the use of fireworks.
- Make sure you read the cautionary labels and performance descriptions before lighting.
- Never relight fireworks.
- And lastly, always have a bucket of water, and charged water hose nearby.
