South Padre Island hosts surfing competition
SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, TX - Grab your flip-flops and sunscreen and head to South Padre Island to cheer on surfers as they compete for first place in the South Padre Island Open. The South Padre Island Convention and Visitors Bureau is a proud supporter of the Open which is a Texas Gulf Surf Association (TGSA) sanctioned event.
On Saturday, April 22, surfers will begin riding the waves at 8:00 a.m. at Isla Blanca Park. On Sunday, April 23, the final rounds begin at 8:00 a.m. at Isla Blanca Park. An awards ceremony will follow at approximately 1:00 p.m. at The Pained Marlin Grille, 202 W. Whiting St., South Padre Island.
“We are excited to host this competition and are very supportive of surfing, paddleboarding, windsurfing, and kite boarding events in South Padre Island and throughout the state,” said Keith Arnold, Director of the South Padre Island Convention and Visitors Bureau.
TSGA holds between 8-10 amateur events per season that are healthy, family oriented and fun, with attention on healthy competition values, and sportsmanship.
