SOUTH PADRE ISLAND – The city of South Padre Island approved more than $30,000 for a beach survey that took place before Hurricane Harvey hit.

About a week’s worth of beach surveying was packed into two days. It will provide the city a pre-storm baseline of the island to show any changes in impact from the Harvey storm surge.

Brandon Hill, shoreline management director for South Padre Island, said the survey can also be used to measure any futures erosion throughout the remainder of hurricane season.
