Starr County man arrested on suspicion of aggravated kidnapping
The Starr County Special Crimes Unit arrested a Rio Grande City man last week on suspicion of aggravated kidnapping.
Investigators with the Special Crimes Unit went looking for Daniel Saenz Barreiro, 32, of Rio Grande City on March 12 after he missed a court hearing, according to a statement released by the Starr County Attorney's Office. When they arrived on Juarez Street in Las Lomas, a community east of Rio Grande City, they stumbled upon a kidnapping in progress.
Investigators "rescued a kidnapping victim that had been physically assaulted by Saenz Barreiro," according to the statement.
Saenz Barreiro is charged with aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony; possession of a controlled substance, a second-degree felony; possession of marijuana, a third-degree felony; and possession of a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor.
It wasn't the first time Saenz Barreiro had missed a court hearing and had a bench warrant issued for his arrest. He'd previously been served with a bench warrant in March 2019.
