Storm to Raise Number of Zika-Infected Mosquitoes
HARLINGEN – The rain and flooding are expected to raise the number of Zika carriers over the coming days.
The Harlingen Health Department said the wet conditions will help the mosquitoes that carry Zika to breed.
“Although Houston has an extremely good program of mosquito surveillance, the problem is that all the equipment and everything is underwater. So we probably need to bring other resources from other areas, provide the support,” said Harlingen Health Department director Josh Ramirez.
Ramirez added that the equipment affected in the Houston area includes mosquito monitoring traps and equipment that helps eradicate the insects.
