Survey aims to improve scientific understanding of COVID-19
Scientists still don't fully understand how COVID-19 affects the body.
In an attempt to learn more about the virus, researchers recently launched a survey — the Texas Coronavirus Antibody Response Survey — designed to determine what percentage of the population has been exposed to the virus.
To find out, the researchers will use serology tests.
"A serology test looks for antibodies in the blood, which are specific proteins made in response to infections," according to the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston website. "Serology results are especially important for detecting previous infections in people who had few or no symptoms."
The survey may help researchers estimate how many people in Texas have been infected with the virus and how long antibodies last.
