EDINBURG – A suspect accused in the murder of a Hidalgo County man went before a judge on Monday.

Benjamin Chavez Sanchez pleaded not guilty to capital murder. 

Sanchez is one of four suspects accused in the death of Jose Angel Martinez. 

Authorities believe the motive for Martinez’s murder was retaliation for a home invasion on Mon Mack Road in Edinburg last April.

Martinez’s body was found in a shallow grave on a ranch in Mission in November 2017.

Sanchez is set to appear in court for a pretrial hearing next month.
