THE WOODLANDS, Texas (AP) - A country music singer has died in Texas after a revolver he was handling accidentally discharged and he was mortally wounded.

Montgomery County Justice of the Peace Wayne Mack said Friday that 35-year-old Justin Carter died at his apartment in The Woodlands, north of Houston.

Mack says the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is investigating Carter's death Saturday. A spokesman for the office did not return phone messages seeking additional details.

Carter just days before his death had released an independent single, "Love Affair," to iTunes and other online music services. A YouTube channel carries several of his music videos.

A manager for Carter, Mark Atherton, told KTRK-TV in Houston that the singer was using the gun as part of a music video he was recording when it discharged.
