Texas Gas Service Issues Warning to Those Planning Home Improvement Projects
MERCEDES – Texas Gas Service is issuing a warning to those who are planning to complete a home improvement project.
This includes both contractors and do-it-yourself homeowners.
Any project that involves digging could be dangerous and potentially fatal.
Communication Manager Christy Penders says calling 8-1-1 a couple days before you start your project is necessary if you need to do any digging.
"811 service is a hub basically. They take the information and then send it out to the utility companies that are members, and then we all go out and mark the lines. You don’t know if there is water, sewer, natural gas, electric, telecommunication, all those different pipes are underground," she says.
Penders adds, in the event that a natural gas pipeline is hit, back away from the area immediately and call 9-1-1.
